In his latest post, Benny introduces his readers to the “Ugly Meter”, an App which takes a photo of someone and uses lines of symmetry to rate their attractiveness.

“Yes, this app is even more popular than Angry Birds. It might be due, in part, to all the controversy. The app has been featured everywhere from The Today Show to The Howard Stern Show, giving it even more exposure, but in recent days, the press has turned…well…ugly” he says.

Today’s THV, along with the Otago Daily Times both made their disapproval of the new App obvious within their publications.

However, the creators of the App ensure people that it is only a bit of fun, testing out the theory that lines of symmetry on the face can be used to rate how attractive or how ugly a person is.

“The app rates you on a scale of 0-10, but the worst part is the commentary. Some reports recite such comments as, “When you walk past a bathroom, the toilet flushes.” And that’s not even when the app is in bully mode” Benny adds.

He writes that the App also contains a bully mode, and some people are worried bully may use it to take a photo of a victim and taunt them with the results.

Either way, Benny makes it clear that the price is a lure for iPhone owners. The App costs just $0.99 or $5 for the ‘pro’ version, which gives a more detailed description of ugliness.

Summing up his latest blog posts, Benny suggests that people have fun with it, while remaining cautious.

“Treat this for exactly what it is: a novelty app. Have fun with it at parties and give everyone a laugh, but don’t take it seriously. And don’t let your kids download it” he says.

Vodafone: May Buy Piramal Stake In India Unit If No IPO In About Two Years - 4-traders (press release)
05/22/2012 | 03:47am

Vodafone Group PLC (>> Vodafone Group plc) Tuesday said it will pay India's Piramal Healthcare Ltd. (500302.BY) between INR70 billion ($1.27 billion) and INR83 billion ($1.51 billion) for its about 11% stake in Vodafone India Ltd. if the Indian unit doesn't make an initial public offering in about two years' time.

The British company will need to make the payment if it doesn't list the Indian unit by Aug. 18, 2013 or Feb. 8, 2014, or if Piramal Healthcare decides not to participate in its public offering, Vodafone said.

Piramal Healthcare had bought an initial 5.5% stake in Vodafone India for INR28.56 billion in August 2011 and another 5.5% stake for about INR30.07 billion in February 2012.

At the time, Piramal Healthcare Chairman Ajay Piramal told reporters the company expects a 17%-20% annual return from its investment in Vodafone.

Vodafone sold the stake to Piramal Healthcare to likely comply with local rules that don't allow foreign firms to own more than a 74% stake in Indian telecommunications ventures. The British firm had earlier bought out its local partner's 33% stake in Vodafone India.

Vodafone Group's current direct shareholding in Vodafone India is 64.4%.

Climb to the top of the O2 and check out the view from next month

SYDNEY has the harbour bridge, and now in London you can put on overalls and climb up the Millenium Dome.

Up at the O2 is the scheme devised by AEG Europe, the owners of the Greenwich events complex, where adventure seekers can climb a vertigo-inducing 53 metres above ground level on a tensile fabric walkway to the top of the dome.

Breathtaking 360-degree views of the capital can be enjoyed at the summit- including the Olympic Park, Thames barrier, the Shard, historic Royal Greenwich and Canary Wharf.

The 90 minute expedition for groups of upto 30 begins at an “immersive” base camp and briefing area, with climb suits, shoes and safety harnesses all supplied.

Highly-trained guides can take anyone over 10 years old and 1.2m high who is medically and physically fit with a sense of adventure. Accessible tours are also planned.

Alistair Wood, AEG Europe, Senior Vice President for Real Estate, commented: “Up at The O2 is not only an exciting, new landmark attraction for London but it also marks the fifth birthday of The O2 in style.“

Tours start year-round on June 21 and tickets are available to O2 customers today and the general public on May 30. It costs £22 for adults and O2 customers get a 15 per cent discount through Priority Moments.
