Microsoft should purchase Nokia, model Apple's iPhone strategy - ZDNet
I don't think Windows Phone's problem is the OEMs. I think it's the lack of carrier support. I think the lack of carrier support is due to a lack of consumer (and enterprise) interest in Windows Phone. That, however, could change with Windows 8 & Windows Phone 8. If Microsoft's unity OS can gain some market share in tablets & PCs, then consumers are more likely to want the same experience on their phone. (Note that I said "more likely to," not "absolutely will.")

If consumers & IT professionals like Windows 8 & Metro... and then see an ad for Windows Phone, they're going to recognize the live tiles... and that's when it may all come together.

I actually think that Windows Phone was the beta test for Windows 8. Once Microsoft saw that those who purchased Windows Phones LOVED them, they realized, "Okay, it's safe to bring this to the PC."

In summary, Windows 8 & Windows Phone 8 are Windows Phone's third act (WP7 was Act I, Mango & Nokia were Act II, & Apollo is Act III). So, again, I don't think Windows Phone suffers from a hardware problem. It suffers from a lack of support among mobile carriers. If Verizon gets onboard like AT&T has, Windows Phone could flourish.

Instead of buying Nokia, I think Microsoft would be better served with inking a similar exclusivity deal with RIM. RIM could create hardware targeted at the enterprise sector and run the Windows OS, and then also create apps exclusively for Windows Phone. Since RIM & Microsoft both have strong relationships with the enterprise sector, the synergies might actually benefit both companies. Nokia (and the others) could focus on the consumer market.

Prepaid iPhone: Sprint’s Virgin Mobile To Offer iPhone 4/4S - mobilenapps.com

Cricket Wireless is going to become first prepaid carrier to offer Apple iPhone on June 22. However, Cricket is not alone to make the move. The latest reports hitting blogosphere suggest that Sprint-owned Virgin Mobile is all set to become the second prepaid network provider to carry Apple iPhone in U.S.

Citing people familiar with Sprint's plans, Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that the carrier is planning to offer Apple iPhone on its prepaid Virgin Mobile and the official announcement can come anytime soon, while the smartphone could go up for sales as soon as July 1. Reportedly, Sprint has agreed with Apple to buy $15.5 billion worth of iGadgets during next four years. Possibly, Sprint is betting on its prepaid subsidiary Virgin Mobile USA to complete the commitment. Reportedly, Sprint has emerged as third largest U.S. carrier after Verizon and AT&T.

Last week, Leap Wireless' Cricket announced to sell iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S on prepaid terms starting June 22. Cricket will sell the 16GB model of iPhone 4S for $499 and 8GB model of iPhone 4 for $399. The carrier's without-contract plan costs $55 per month, offering unlimited calling, text and data. Despite being labeled as "unlimited data", the data is not truly unlimited as data caps are applied. The Internet speeds will slow down after user consumes 2.3GB of data within a single month.

In case of Virgin Mobile, there are no words on pricing of iPhone or pay-as-you-go plan.

Among the highlights of Motorola Mobility's rich history on display at the world's fourth busiest airport for international traffic is the technology used during moon landing, the world's first commercial mobile phone, the era-defining Motorola RAZR™ and its latest incarnation, Motorola RAZR MAXX which, at up to 17.6 hours, boasts the longest talk-time of any smartphone on the market.

"Motorola Mobility is a brand that looks for innovation in every form, from device and software to the way we engage our customers and communicate with the world at large," said Mahmoud Sayed Ahmed, marketing director, Motorola Mobility, Middle East & Africa.

Apple said to be targeting September unveiling for iPhone and iPad - v3.co.uk

Apple is reportedly planning to unveil the next versions of its iPad and iPhone mobile devices in a September event.

Analyst Brian White was credited in reporting that the Fall event would include the introduction of the next iPhone model and a new iPad "mini" tablet device. The Topeka Capital Markets analyst cited manufacturing industry sources in the report.

The September release date would out Apple on track slightly ahead of last year's October iPhone unveiling. Previous reports have indicated that Apple was targeting a Fall time frame for the handset's introduction.

The release could position Apple for another strong holiday shopping season. Last year, the company logged its best quarter ever over the final three months of the calendar, due in part to unprecedented iPhone sales numbers.

Early reports from manufacturers and analysts suggest that in addition to processor and capacity upgrades, the new iPhone will sport a larger screen and a slimmer case design.

Apple is set to provide information on the next version of the iOS platform for both the iPad and the iPhone next week at its Worldwide Developer Conference. The company has also said it will be detailing the next version of the OS X platform.
