T-Mobile Galaxy S III: 2GB RAM, Dual-Core S4, Available June 21 - Social Barrel

T-Mobile Galaxy S III: 2GB RAM, Dual-Core S4, Available June 21 - Social Barrel

T-Mobile has entered the fray between its fellow largest carriers in the U.S. as the company announced on Monday that it will also start selling the T-Mobile Galaxy S III beginning on June 21.

Furthermore, it is now official that the Galaxy S III variants going to the four largest mobile carriers in the U.S. will all be powered by dual-core 1.5GHz S4 processors as T-Mobile has revealed that its T-Mobile Galaxy S III will also be powered by the QUALCOMM Snapdragon CPU.

The international version of the Samsung Galaxy S III is powered by the quad-core 1.4GHz Samsung Exynos 4212 processor.

However, unlike Verizon, AT&T and Sprint who also all announced their plans for their Galaxy S III smartphones on Monday, the Deutsche Telekom-owned company is keeping mum on the pricing of the T-Mobile Galaxy S III.

Verizon, AT&T and Sprint have said that their 16GB Galaxy S III units will start at $199.99. Verizon and Sprint have revealed that their 32GB versions will be priced at $249.99 while AT&T is promoting adding a $39 16GB microSD card for storage of 32GB selling for $238.99.

This is the same amount of RAM as the units going to Verizon and Sprint. AT&T, on the other hand, did not reveal how much RAM will be powering its Galaxy S III offering. However, since Verizon’s, Sprint’s and T-Mobile’s units pack 2GB in RAM, it’s highly likely that the AT&T variant will also have 2GB in RAM.

However, AT&T and Sprint offer units which differentiate them from those offered by their competitors. AT&T has revealed that it will be the only national carrier in the U.S. which will offer a red variant of the Galaxy S III. Meanwhile, Sprint has revealed that the Galaxy S III smartphones going to them will have Google Wallet preinstalled out of the box.

All of the phones will be working on the 4G LTE networks of the four large carriers albeit the units going to Sprint will only be able to take advantage of the higher speed offered by 4G when Sprint launches its LTE network later this year. AT&T boasts that their 4G LTE network currently cover more than 260 million people in the U.S. and Verizon says that they will cover that very same number after they expand their LTE network from 258 to 400 markets this year. Meanwhile T-Mobile is boasting that they have “America’s Largest 4G Network.”

“We have a tremendous history of working with Samsung to bring cutting-edge devices to market, and we know our customers are excited to get their hands on the Galaxy S III,” said T-Mobile USA’s Brad Duea in a statement.

“As we continue to aggressively compete, this device is yet another example of how T-Mobile delivers amazing devices and 4G experiences to our customers,” the T-Mobile USA senior vice president for product management added.

As with the Galaxy S III versions announced on Verizon, AT&T and Sprint, the T-Mobile Galaxy S III will be powered by the latest Android mobile operating system: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

For comparison, the Galaxy S II which is the predecessor of the Galaxy S II had a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen – which some argue is better than the Super AMOLED display of the Galaxy S III because it has a full set of subpixels – with a resolution of 800×400 pixels and a 1,650mAh battery.

The T-Mobile Galaxy S III will also feature an 8MP rear camera which has Burst Shot and Best shot and is capable of capturing Full HD 1080p video and a 1.9MP front camera.

T-Mobile wants to differentiate the T-Mobile Galaxy S III from the offerings of its rivals by appealing to people who may want to use their smartphone for business. The company said in its release:

“For customers who want to use the device in their business and personal lives, T-Mobile’s Galaxy S III offers a suite of security features delivering enterprise-friendly capabilities. From syncing corporate email, calendars and contacts to providing on-device encryption, the Galaxy S III makes it easy to maximize efficiency and productivity for enterprise users. T-Mobile customers also have access to Wi-Fi Calling and the Smartphone Mobile HotSpot feature ensuring easy and reliable connectivity while on the road.”

The T-Mobile Galaxy S III will also feature the same software features of the Galaxy S III international version which we discussed here in-depth.

To be released on June 21 will be the “metallic blue” and “ceramic white” versions of the T-Mobile Galaxy S III although the carrier did not say when it will start taking preorders through its stores and through its website.

Apple scores win in Motorola patent case - ZDNet Australia

Motorola now has only one patent left to assert in its ongoing infringement case with Apple.

US District Court Judge Richard Posner ruled in Apple's favour earlier this week, by dismissing Motorola's US Patent No. 6,175,559.

Described in tech terms as a "method for generating preamble sequences in a code division multiple access system", the patent was seen by Motorola as essential to the company's 3G (UMTS) standard, according to Foss Patents' blogger Florian Mueller.

But Apple had argued otherwise, and Posner has agreed that the patent should be thrown out. However, the removal doesn't come as a huge surprise.

To try to limit the confusing array of patents in the case, Posner has been slicing and dicing his way through, eliminating one after the other. Motorola is left with just one patent to assert at the trial, down from an initial six. Apple has four, but that's down from an initial 15, according to Mueller. And the judge may not be finished.

"Judge Posner isn't necessarily done winnowing," Mueller said. "There may be more to come. In Judge Posner's court, patents-in-suit are an endangered species."

Apple and Motorola have been hurling a string of patent infringement lawsuits against each other for some time. Motorola has claimed that Apple had infringed several of its wireless and smartphone technologies. Apple has alleged that Motorola has violated some of its key patents related to iOS devices.

The suit that Posner is handling was filed in the Northern District of Illinois, US.

Of course, the real battle is between Apple and Google, a conflict that was a sore point for the late Steve Jobs.

Posner recently ruled against Apple's request to keep details from Jobs' authorised biography out of court, finding that Jobs' "thermonuclear war" comment about Android was admissable.

The Apple leader was quoted by his biographer Walter Isaacson as declaring, "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."

Apple and Motorola are set to take the case to trial in Chicago, Illinois this month.

Motorola Solutions Inc : Motorola Solutions' PartnerEmpower™ Program Expanded to Include Application Partners - 4-traders (press release)
06/04/2012 | 08:05am

An enhanced Wireless Network Solutions Specialization strengthens the program

Motorola Solutions' (NYSE: MSI) products combined with the latest innovative software applications can result in powerful solutions to deliver a strong return on investment for our enterprise customers. To support the development of best-in-class applications and drive new levels of synergy between its large reseller base and application developers, Motorola has made its PartnerEmpower Program available to companies that develop their own applications for mobile solutions and converged communications products.

Through PartnerEmpower, Motorola will help its Application Partners streamline the application development process and bring stronger solutions to market, faster. Motorola's new Application Partner Community will recognize, differentiate and reward Application Partners and Solution Partners that develop, cultivate and drive Motorola hardware opportunities through their software solutions. The expansion of the program to include application developers is a key step in Motorola's strategy to encompass all of its varied channels under a single channel partner program--and comes at a time when customers are increasingly looking for end-to-end solutions that encompass hardware, software and services.

Motorola is also unveiling enhancements to the Wireless Network Solutions (WNS) Specialization, one of three program specializations for PartnerEmpower resellers in North America. Participation in the WNS Specialization is now based on four different technology segments: Converged Communication (TEAM), Wireless Local Area Networks, Wireless Outdoor Networks and Wireless Security. Specialization members now participate in one or more of these segments, depending on the technology focus of their business. Through this new structure, Motorola will be better able to recognize channel partners for their investments made in developing expertise in certain technologies.

KEY FACTS

  • Introduced in 2010, Motorola's PartnerEmpower Program is the foundation of a global network of channel partners that brings new opportunities for collaboration in delivering customer solutions.
  • Companies that are participating in the current PartnerSelect Program for independent software vendors (ISVs) are in the process of transitioning into PartnerEmpower as Application Partners.
  • PartnerEmpower enables channel partners to differentiate themselves in the marketplace through their expertise. Application Partners can earn the status of Application Specialist or Application Elite Specialist by meeting application testing criteria and achieving certification, among other criteria.
  • The program helps Application Partners build their business and develop applications more effectively through benefits including financial rewards for influencing sales opportunities, inclusion in an application demo library, access to Motorola engineers for solution testing, field marketing support, early access to new products, and more.
  • This week, Motorola is hosting APPFORUM AMERICAS 2012, its first North America developer conference, which will feature more than 40 informative technical sessions on the latest tools, platforms, products and technologies.
  • All online resources to WNS Specialization members will now be delivered through PartnerCentral, which replaces the WNS partner portal and allows members access to wireless product information, program resources and much more.

SUPPORTING QUOTES

Enhancing the program for our WNS resellers also shows how we are driving deeper collaboration with the channel."
