The Nokia Lumia PureView 808 will be available from Amazon UK for under £500 on June 21, it has been revealed.
Previously listed at around the £600 price-point the PureView 808, whilst obviously being a huge advancement in mobile imaging technology, was still a tad pricy for some. It is a Symbian handset after all.
Know Your Mobile saw the Nokia PureView 808 at MWC 2012 and liked the cut of its jib, especially it’s chunky retro-futuristic – we know that’s not a word – design and styling.
The only thing we’re not keen on is its Symbian Belle operating system. Why didn’t Nokia stick Windows Phone in there, or failing that MeeGo?
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has hinted that the 808’s imagining technology will eventually filter down to other Nokia handsets, which means you’ll soon see a Windows Phone handset packing a 41-megapixel camera.
The PureView 808 features a 1.3GHz ARM 11 processor, 16GB of storage with an additional 32GB available via microSD card, Symbian Belle, and Digital Dolby Plus sound enhancement.
So if you’re after a true ‘cameraphone’ and find the whole Android-iPhone thing utterly soulless then the Nokia PureView 808 could very well be the handset for you.
Portugal Telecom Shares Drop to Lowest Since 1996: Lisbon Mover - Bloomberg
Portugal Telecom SGPS SA (PTC), the country’s biggest telecommunications company, fell for a seventh day in Lisbon trading to the lowest price in nearly 16 years as investors flee from stocks in some euro countries.

Nokia Lumia 800 Easily Beats iPhone 4 in Finding Directions - Softpedia
Regardless of them being high-end phones or customized devices, Android or iOS products have little chance to beat a Windows Phone in searching things on the web, loading photos on social networks or finding directions to points of interest.
Microsoft’s Smoked by Windows Phone campaign was built on this idea, and it became very popular all around the world.
This is why Nokia has decided to take it to the streets on its own to show what its Lumia handsets have to offer when compared to other devices out there.
In the video embedded below, you will see a Nokia Lumia 800 smartphone easily beating an Apple iPhone 4 in a small challenge that involves finding turn-by-turn directions to the London Eye.
Nokia’s Windows Phone was able to deliver the needed information in only 15.24 seconds, while the iPhone was still searching for it.
“Up for a challenge? Find out where we end up as the Nokia Lumia 800 goes up against the iPhone 4 en route to one of London's top landmarks. In today's Apps challenge the Nokia Drive app shows us how you can access free turn-by-turn voice guided navigation,” Nokia notes in video’s description.
“You can even pre-load maps so it work's [sic] when your signal doesn't. With more than 100 countries across 6 continents, you'll never get lost again. Unless you want to.”
Nokia’s own navigation app provides Lumia users with a great advantage when compared to what the iPhone has to deliver, that’s for sure. Apple’s users need a third-party app to receive turn-by-turn navigation features.
The owner of the iPhone 4 was given a brand new Nokia Lumia 800, along with a poster to state her decision to upgrade to a Nokia Windows Phone.

ZTE passes the second phase of multi-mode TD-LTE network validation trial in China - telecomlead.com

ZTE Chairman Hou Weigui
Telecom Lead Asia: Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE has passed the second phase of a national multi-mode TD-LTE network validation trial in China.
For the second phase of the trial, ZTE covered cities such as Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Xiamen.
ZTE claims that it is placed as the first-in-line vendor that would be authorized to deploy commercial TD-LTE networks once these are approved for use by the Chinese government.
The trial was undertaken by the People's Republic of
China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and China Mobile.
Of the 11 systems vendors that participated in the second phase of the trial, ZTE was the only company that passed requirements in the test fields of chipset, terminals and systems.
The ZTE ZX297502 chipset is the first and only TD-LTE/TD-SCDMA/FDD-LTE/GSM multi-mode single chipset to pass the technical requirements in the second phase of trial. ZTE's single-chip technology supports fast switching across different modes. It also ensures low power consumption by terminal products and longer standby times.
"Innovation is fundamental to our enterprise. Our success in this trial is evidence of that fact. It represents our commitment to drive the development of commercial TD-LTE networks around the world," said ZTE Chairman Hou Weigui.
ZTE holds approximately 2,000 LTE patents, accounting for
7 percent of the worldwide total.
The company has built seven TD-LTE commercial networks
across the globe.
It has built 50 percent of the base stations for
Softbank's Japan network.
The company has signed LTE-FDD/TDD construction agreements with Hutchison Whampoa Hi3G and provides service across a number of northern European countries.

Globe Telecom backs Green Archers FC - ABS-CBN
MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom reaffirmed its support to Philippine football as it signed a three-year sponsorship pact with the Green Archers Football Club, which is currently seeing action in the United Football League’s first division.
The team was put up in 1998 when multi-titled De La Salle Santiago Zobel School and De La Salle University football coach Hans Smit brought together a group of La Salle alumni to form the Alabang Grins.
The Grins qualified as sixth out of 15 teams in the then UFL in 2009. The following year, the team was opened to other football players and non-La Sallians from all over the country before it changed its name to the Green Archers United Football Club to reflect the diversity of the squad.
While keeping a highly competitive squad, the GAUFC has also been helping in the development of the sport through clinics, training programs and participation in football tournaments for its members. The UFC is an annual event composed of a Cup and League tournament with two divisions featuring 22 teams.
“Globe is relentless in supporting sports teams, especially those coming from the grassroots. We believe that the Green Archers United Football Club has huge potential in steering the country towards excellence in the field of sports and athletics, particularly in football, with their passion, talent and determination,” said Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu.
